Indian History and Culture

Prof. Rekha Pande is the Head of the Centre for Women’s Studies and a Professor in the Department of History at the University of Hyderabad. India. She was earlier the Head of the Department of History. She been the founding member of two Centers for Women’s Studies, one at Maulana Azad National Urdu University and the other at the University of Hyderabad. She was the Chair of the Women’s World Congress in 2014 organized for the first time in India.

She has thirty-eight years of teaching experience in three different Universities, Allahabad University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) and University of Hyderabad (HCU). She has also taught a course, on Religious and Cultural Heritage of India, at the International Institute of Information technology (IIIT). Her work is in the Inter disciplinary area of History and Women’s Studies. In History she has published in the area of Women’s history, cultural history, Miniature paintings, representation of women in the Deccan, women and the Bhakti movement, Devadasis and Courtesans. In women’s studies she has published in the area of Socialization and family, Girl Child, Child labor, Women’s Work, Health, and Violence against women, Women’s Movement and impact of Globalization on women. She has to her credit Eighteen books and approximately 150 papers in National and International Journals, Proceedings and Book chapters.
